Food Bank Drive-Thru Food Distributions Sponsorship Opportunity
Prior to COVID-19, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank hosted a monthly on-site produce distribution on the third Thursday of each month that served between 800 to 1,000 families. In April 2020, the Food Bank transitioned to weekly Emergency Drive-Thru Food Distributions at the City of Cleveland Municipal Lot, serving around 3,000 households each week.
Each distribution takes place outdoors and is completely contactless: clients remain in their vehicles while volunteers place boxes of food in their trunk. Typically, a combination of fresh produce and shelf-stable product is distributed.
The cost of a monthly produce distribution prior to the pandemic was $15,000, but the weekly cost can be 4x higher now, depending on the product being distributed and the increase in demand from the community.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, community members have visited these distributions to receive emergency food, many turning to the Food Bank, and our partner agencies, for the first time in their lives. We plan to continue these emergency distributions as long as there is an increased need in our community. Many of our neighbors have difficult days ahead. With your help, the Food Bank can be there for the long haul until our community can fully recover.
