Jean is the definition of a resilient woman. She’s powered through the job cuts that cost her job after 49 years in the childcare field. A car accident and breast cancer limit her mobility, making her unable to work. Frustrated, she explains, “How do you go from a thriving family with health insurance paid for to being in an accident and having to claim disability?”
After working hard for so many years, Jean turned to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and our network of partners. She also works to cut costs by living her friends, Mary and David, and sharing meals with her mother.
Despite her hard work and efforts, Jean still often has to choose between food, medicine, mortgage and taxes. Coming to her neighborhood school market means she doesn’t have to make that choice as often, and even provides her with access to fresh produce which she couldn’t otherwise afford.
Thanks to your support, Jean has the nutritious food she needs despite her hardship.
